Hon. Ekundayo Alebiosu, the Honorable Commissioner of the Ministry of Waterfront Infrastructure Development, has reiterated the need for strict adherence to road safety and infrastructure preservation laws, particularly concerning the movement of tipper trucks carrying wet sand.

“Driving tipper trucks filled with wet sand on the road is highly illegal” he stated.

Wet sand significantly increases the weight of the truck, doubling its negative impact on the road. The excessive weight increases wear and tear, causing cracks, potholes, and ruts, which degrade roads not designed to handle such stress.

To avoid being apprehended, tipper operators must ensure that newly dredged sand is allowed to dry properly before being hauled. The load must also not exceed legal weight limits.

Alebiosu also emphasizes that complying with these regulations is vital to safeguarding road infrastructure and ensuring safer transportation across Lagos. “By following these guidelines, we not only preserve our roads but also create safer conditions for all road users.’
