Nnamdi Kanu’s Trial: A Call for Caution and Legal Representation
A prominent legal expert, Chief Tony Dania Esq, has warned that Nnamdi Kanu’s actions in his ongoing criminal trial may lead to a severe conviction.
According to Chief Dania, Kanu’s decision to represent himself and his recent sack of his lawyers may deter experienced attorneys from taking on his case.
The lawyer expressed concern over Kanu’s ability to hire and fire lawyers at will, citing this as a reason for lawyers to be cautious. Chief Dania also condemned the trial of Kanu’s special lawyer, stating that the lawyer is presumed innocent and should be granted bail as a right.
Regarding Kanu’s case, Chief Dania noted that the court is conducting a speedy trial and that Kanu is not entitled to bail due to his previous bail jump and escape from the country. However, he emphasized Kanu’s constitutional right to represent himself, recommending that Kanu engage a reputable lawyer, such as his former lawyer, Agabi SAN, to defend him.
Chief Dania also referenced the Nigerian Constitution, stating that citizens have the right to relinquish their citizenship peacefully, and discouraged mass protests to force the government or court to release Kanu on bail.
