The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has again postponed the enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit requirement for vehicles with tinted windows to October 2, 2025.
The initial grace period was set to expire by midnight on Tuesday, August 12, 2025.
In a Monday address, Force Spokesperson DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said the decision followed a sharp rise in applications on the official portal.
He explained that the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, after reviewing the increased public compliance with the directive, ordered an immediate postponement of the earlier deadline.
Adejobi said, “The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has approved a further extension of the grace period for the enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit requirement for vehicles with tinted windows, with the new enforcement date now set for 2nd October, 2025.
“This decision follows a significant surge in applications via the official portal, reflecting heightened public compliance with the directive.
“In light of this, the Force considers it imperative to allow sufficient time for the meticulous scrutiny of applications to ensure that the permit is issued only to eligible and qualified individuals, in line with national security considerations.”
He added that the extension will also allow more time to “fine-tune verification processes, both digital and physical, to maintain the integrity of the permit system and prevent abuse.”
Adejobi stressed that the authorised application platform remains the same and urged citizens to ignore unofficial channels.
He also warned that citizens should report any incidents of extortion or unprofessional conduct by officers.
He said, “Members of the public are further encouraged to report all forms of extortion, hidden charges, or unauthorised processing to the appropriate Police authorities, including via the dedicated hotline: 09169967000.”
The NPF urged the public to cooperate, assuring that it will continue to balance public convenience with strong security measures for the safety of everyone.
