All units and departments that are seeing to the protection of the VIPs in the country are gradually withdrawing policemen to attend to their core duties of policing.

Recall that the President and Commander-in-Chief of Armed Forces, Bola Tinubu, last week directed the Inspector General of Police to bring all police personnel back to base to face their core duties of policing and attending to the rising level of insecurity in the country.

One of the VIP police units, the Police Special Protection Unit, in Lagos State on Monday in a statement directed its personnel to report back to the head office, adding that a meeting and headcount had been scheduled for today, Tuesday.

The SPU statement signed by ASP Neji Veronica, warned officers to ensure strict compliance.

The SPU deals with protection of diplomatic community in the country and workers in the oil and gas industry, among others.
