Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Olatunji Rilwan Disu has honoured Inspector John Jerome Abena, who lost his life during the operation that secured the rescue of abducted schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State.
Speaking while receiving police officers who participated in the mission, the IGP described Abena’s death as the ultimate sacrifice in service to the nation and assured that his bravery and dedication would never be forgotten.
Disu praised the courage, professionalism and resilience displayed by the rescue team, noting that their commitment ensured the safe return of the victims despite the risks involved.
The police chief revealed that several officers sustained injuries during the operation and assured that the Nigeria Police Force was providing medical treatment and welfare support to all affected personnel.
He also pledged continued support for the families of officers who die in the line of duty, stressing that the Force remains committed to honouring and caring for its fallen heroes.
The IGP commended the Armed Forces and other security agencies for their cooperation throughout the operation, stating that intelligence sharing, strategic planning and joint operations were crucial to the successful rescue.
He urged Nigerians to support security agencies with timely and credible information, emphasizing that security is everyone’s responsibility.
Disu thanked all officers involved in the operation for their sacrifice and dedication, describing the rescue as a testament to the effectiveness of intelligence-led and coordinated security efforts.
