Following the deletion of President Muhammadu Buhari’s tweet by Twitter earlier this week, the Federal Government has announced an indefinite suspension of Twitter in Nigeria, today June 4th, 2021.

The announcement was published via the verified Twitter handle of the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture. The head of the ministry, Alhaji Lai Mohammed in his statement, said that the microblogging app is guilty of promoting activities that devalue Nigeria’s corporate existence. While the news was published by the information ministry, the Federal ministry of communications and digital economy has kept mum over the issue.

The Federal Government also said it has ordered the National Broadcasting Commission to commence the process of licensing all OTT and social media operations in Nigeria.
