Driver narrates how Ahmed Gulak was killed in Owerri

Details of how former presidential aide, and APC chieftain, Ahmed Gulak was shot dead by gunmen at Umueze Obiangwu community along Sam Mbakwe Airport Road in Owerri, Imo State has continued to unfold.

The Adamawa State indigene, spotting on blue jeans and black polo shirt was reportedly shot dead in the early hours of today on his way to board a flight to Abuja.

According to a reliable source, the driver of the airport taxi that he boarded claimed that they were stopped by armed men who chose to kill only Gulak when they discovered his identity.

“ The driver is an airport taxi driver and the hotel called him to drop off Gulak and his friend at the airport. About five minutes to the airport, several gunmen jumped out from the bush and started stopping cars.

According to the taxi driver’s story, about two vehicles were stopped before them. The gun men took turns to search and rob each car and when they got to them, they queried why they decided to flout Nnamdi Kanu’s order that everyone should stay at home.

They asked him his state of origin,  his work; as well as the others. Gulak said he is from Benue and civil servants, while his friend said he is from Rivers State. They refused to believe Gulak story and started to search the car. As soon as they discovered who he was a politician, they decided to kill him. They shot him twice. From the to narration of the driver, it was a random attack but Gulak was not lucky because of his identity,” the source narrated.
Statement released by the PPRO, Imo State Commend, SP Bala Elkana, noted that the incident happened by 7.20am, when the armed bandits attacked the Toyota Camry can carrying Gulak and two others on their way to the airport.
” Ahmed Gulak left his room at Protea Hotel without informing the Police or other sister sister security agencies in view of the fragile security situation in Southeast and Imo in particular.
” He left without any security escorts,” Elkana said.
